While Windows 7 allowed you to select a network profile while connecting to a network, Windows 10 doesn’t do so anymore. If you run into issues because of a public network profile you need to make some adjustments in the registry.
- Open the registry editor by pressing Win+R and entering regedit
- navigate to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ NetworkList\ Profiles\ <profile number>
- Adjust the value of the entry Category to your liking
- 0 = public
- 1 = private
- 2 = domain
